Integrity

Integrity is a strong word. It means,"The state of being unimpaired; soundness." How can we apply that to the artistic part of our lives? Well we can be sound or "unbroken" in our style and our abilities. It's wonderful to see our favorite artist and be deeply inspired. But, do we give so much detail to the artist that we never reach "our" OWN true potential? One way of learning to honor the artist we respect is by copying there works, just to understand there viewpoint of what they did. We will "never" be in their head and have "their" eye, but we "will" grow a lot more depth and understanding of the "how". Take a piece of art that inspires you and change it. It will make you better and force your own mind to go deeper as respects to your own ability. Always stay true and honest to yourself about your ability. Always love the masters and their abilities, but "Keep the Integrity" in your OWN ability. Justin Sweet, the famous fantasy master said this of himself, "I really don't know where I'm going when I start a piece, I just kind of have an idea in my mind, a feeling, and I sort of chase that feeling."(interview from IFX magazine) This is a form of integrity, staying honest with what " you" feel. I drew the outline of this creature from "Star Wars" and forced speed to make myself fill the outline in, understanding the artist idea, but keeping my integrity and designing the fill in myself. I hope you enjoy......
